Paul Blake, better known as Frankie Paul with “Tell Me Why” an anti-war commentary tune concerning the Falkland Islands conflict. Located in the South Atlantic, Argentina had long claimed these islands as part of its territory. On April 2, 1982, Argentine forces landed in the Falklands (Islas Malvinas), capturing the islands two days later. In response, the British dispatched a naval and amphibious task force to the area to retake the islands. The rest as they say is history. “Tell Me Why” was produced by all round music don Tony Asher (Anthony Brissett) and originally released on his short lived “Dread Corporation Muzik” label in 1982, backed by the ever powerful, tight and versatile High Times Band.
Adopting the stage name Frankie Paul, he first found fame in the early 1980s, and he recorded prolifically throughout the decade. He recorded for virtually every producer and studio in Jamaica at some time, and was known to release several full length albums a year.
Paul resided in Gambia from 1994 until his passing on the May 18th 2017 at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.
